Job Description

Elementary Secretary (6A)

Provides word processing, desktop publishing, scheduling of appointments, secretarial support, data charts, power point, excel data charts, financial record keeping, student information system, and various related assigned duties. The successful candidate should demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Implement office procedures which assure efficient assistance to students, parents, teachers, and counselors
  • Prepare correspondence, schedules, programs, trainings, as needed
  • Oversee and maintain DASL and various student information systems
  • Assist with tracking students and creating reports as requested
  • Prints forms, brochures, and booklets as directed
  • Prepares local, state, or federal reports as needed
  • Maintain records and files as required
  • Update and maintain student database and updates information for programs like automatic call service and website
  • Maintain student records for things such as CVCC, home instruction, health concerns, and other areas of need
  • Maintain parent teacher conference scheduling and generate schedule for administrators
  • Assists in areas concerning student testing such as ACT, SAT and all state required tests
  • Perform receptionist duties
  • Prepares letters, reports, requisitions, and other documents; proof-read for accuracy
  • Performs routine office duties
  • Oversee commencement and/or transition activities
  • Assist in all guidance areas as needed
  • Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance
  • Demonstrates a positive work ethic
  • Works cooperatively with others in small groups
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee

About You:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Training and/or experience, which evidences a basic knowledge of word processing, secretarial duties, and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior. A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district's show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels. Students can expect success when they become involved in the various academic, co-curricular, and student leadership organizations in this District.
